Following the most famous love story of all time, this retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet captivated audiences with its passion and tragedy. In the midst of the warring Capuleti (Capulet) and Montecchi (Montague) families, Romeo and Giulietta (Juliet) find themselves in a dangerous love. Differing from the original story, this retelling takes place in France in the midst of the French Wars of Religion.
For this project, we custom fabricated stage left, stage right, and upstage flats alongside a platform. Additionally, stairs were strategically constructed along the upstage. To enhance this vision, faux stairs were painted along the upstage flat, and faux candle wax adorned both the true and faux stairs, creating a haunting image. What truly brought the Capuleti vision to life was the massive, intricate portrait of a woman adorning the upstage flat. This poignant portrait cast a watchful eye over the opera, making the opera a truly unique and immersive experience for the audience.
