Inspired by Federico Fellini’s cult classic film 8 1/2, Director Matthew Ozawa reimagines this famous play as a comedic romp set in 1960’s America. Set Designer Andrew Boyce’s design takes this concept of “play-as-film-as-play” to new heights and we worked closely with him to beautifully realize their meta vision within the set we constructed for them.
“Director Matthew Ozawa has created new backdrops here — a film set where the Brown Theatre stage becomes a sound stage and filmmakers surround the performers with the opera being made into a movie.”
– Review by Elizabeth Kramer on WFPL’s Arts and Culture
“The scene design, custom made for this production by Andrew Boyce, fit perfectly within the realm of the small stage that is the Brown Theatre and was aesthetically pleasing for The Barber of Seville.”
– Review by Annette Skaggs
