We were very excited to partner with the Columbus Opera for the first time on a major production of The Barber of Seville – and also to be reunited with our favorite set designer, Grace Laubacher! Having worked with Grace before made this project extra special for us as we worked together to bring to life her Miami-themed vision for the classic play.
This opera set transforms into a massive 27-foot-high flyaway facade to reveal a 2-story, fully functioning ‘dollhouse’ style set with practical doors, windows, and a spiral staircase that allows actors and audiences to roam freely about the space while getting lost in their characters. Interactive architectural elements were embedded that reflected the play’s focus of actor/audience interaction.
The facade features custom, independently DMX-triggered LED light signage and hidden prop doors for actors to spring out from.
