Adapted from the book with the same title by Michelle Knudsen, this production brings the classic children’s story to the stage! The story follows a lion who enters the library and becomes an unexpected helper, much to the surprise of the librarian, Miss Merriwether. She allows the lion to stay as long as he doesn’t break any rules, and he becomes a beloved part of it. However, when the lion has to break a rule to save a friend, conflict arises, and the library’s community bands together to bring their beloved lion back into the community.
Aiming for a classic library feel to the set, we first started with flat walls with book prints set back using millwork. This provided structure for the set while also giving the illusion of fully 3D bookcases. We also constructed the library’s circulation desk and rolling bookcase, ensuring perfection in both our millwork and scenic painting to ensure they could help further bring the library atmosphere to life. A clock with a custom CNC frame, details, and custom printed face sat above the center of the main archway. We also constructed numerous set props, and produced beautiful scenic painting, making sure the Adam Theatre’s vision was truly able to be brought to life.
