In Mascagni’s masterpiece, the audience follows Fritz, an eternal bachelor who seemingly has it all. However, when Rabbi David, Fritz’s close friend, wagers that Fritz will fall in love and marry within a year, Fritz accepts and puts up his vineyard as his side of the bet, confident in his bachelor lifestyle. Everything changes when Fritz sees the gorgeous Suzel, and the bet becomes about more than just property. Will Fritz find more value in newfound love than property as he risks it all? Or will he stay true to his bet to Rabbi David and keep his prized bachelor lifestyle?
The project involved the meticulous construction of the Stage Left and Stage Right flats alongside the Upstage flat, which featured scenic painting that brought the entire set to life. The Upstage flat showcased custom-made columns adorned with intricate base trim and capitals, complemented by a beautifully crafted cornice that added an air of elegance to the design. Framed hanging prints were strategically placed to mimic the appearance of exterior windows, surrounded by lush greenery, vibrant trees, and colorful flowers, creating an enchanting backdrop fit for the charming vineyards of the show. The flaying branch, made from custom-sculpted foam, was expertly painted and embellished with artificial flowers that seemed to gracefully float into the scene, enhancing the overall visual appeal. Every element was thoughtfully executed through scenic painting, ensuring a cohesive and immersive experience for the audience to help bring the comedy, romance, and entertainment of L’amico Fritz.
